"These community events are a direct response to concerns raised in the Trial Court’s access and fairness surveys, where many community members, particularly those from communities of color, felt their voices were not being heard,” said Massachusetts Probation Service (MPS) Commissioner Pamerson Ifill. “Our focus is to build trust, strengthen our interactions and relationships, deliver higher levels of customer service, address the needs of victims and survivors, and connect them with important resources. We believe this is what is needed to protect and build safer, healthier, and stronger communities."
Beginning last spring and throughout the summer, MPS employees have hosted nearly 80 community engagement events, including various community resource fairs, a recovery cookout featuring the opening day of the Red Sox season, block parties, a combination baby shower and housewarming, open houses, and more.
MPS employees have also collaborated with community organizations by participating in locally sponsored road races, charity walks, a basketball tournament, National Night Out events, and back-to-school supply giveaways.
As these events continue to grow in number and impact, MPS builds a more connected community and lays the groundwork for long-term positive change.
