Nine Massachusetts Probation Service (MPS) employees presented at the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) conference last week! It is APPA’s 50th Anniversary.

APPA’s Summer Training Institute at the Marriott Marquis in New York City, August 24-27, drew roughly 1,500 Probation, Parole, and community corrections professionals from across the country and Canada.

WABC’s show, “Here and Now” assigned its social media team—led by journalist Chelsea Aalim, who featured Dr. Carmen Gomez, Deputy Commissioner-Pretrial Services; Jude David, Training Unit Program Manager; APPA President Veronica Cunningham; and New York Probation Commissioner Juanita Holmes in social media reports.

The APPA presentations by MPS staff were as follows:

Jude David, Training Unit Program Manager, taught “Personalities 2,“ part two of: “Personalities Will Make or Break your Workplace.”

Seven MPS employees presented on the George Mason University Project.

Presenters/Moderators included:

  • Antoinetta Deangelis, Chief Probation Officer, Greenfield District Court
  • Dexter McKenzie, Probation Officer, Salem District Court
  • Elizabeth Archer, Assistant Chief Probation Officer, Greenfield District Court
  • Justin Yawn, Probation Officer, Plymouth Superior Court
  • Michael Manteria, Assistant Chief Probation Officer, Hampden County Superior Court
  • Tara Yaffi, Chief Probation Officer, Salem District Court

Dr. Gomez presented in four separate sessions during the four-day conference.

  • ”Unconscious Bias,” The Leadership Institute.
  • ”Breaking Boundaries for Women: Allies in Action: Redefining Leadership Together”
  • ”Effective Leadership Practices: From Cultivation to Implementation”
  • ”Women's Symposium: No Limits, Just Possibilities”
