Members of the Victim Services Unit staff are hosting a Comfort Pack Drive to collect items that will be provided to victims and survivors of sexual assault. This drive is being conducted in honor of Victim Rights and Sexual Assault Awareness Month is VSU’s 4th annual.

The Comfort Packs are given to victims and survivors of sexual assault who report to a hospital or a Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) for treatment or evidence collection. The drive will end on April 30th.

"The goal is to provide survivors with basic items to assist them in moving forward one step at a time and to feel supported by the knowledge that there are people out there who have thought about them during this difficult time," said Corinn Crowninshield, Statewide Supervisor of the Massachusetts Probation Service's Victim Services Unit.

Among the items to be found in the Comfort Packs are: toothbrushes and travel size toothpaste; mouthwash; a comb and hair elastic; tissues; travel-size deodorant, lip balm, wet wipes, and underwear.

There are separate packs for children called pediatric packs. They include toddler/young adult toothbrushes and travel size toothpaste, character/teen band-aides, toddler/young adult themed tissues, hair scrunchies, coloring books, stickers, small stuffed animals, playing cards, journals, and stress balls.

The collected items will be donated to SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) sites throughout the state, including hospitals and Child Advocacy Centers, according to Ms. Crowninshield.

Collection sites are set-up across the state at the following eight locations:

  • Chicopee District, 30 Church Street, Chicopee
  • Lowell Probate & Family, 370 Jackson Street, Lowell
  • Massachusetts Probation Service Training & Operations Center (MTOC)
