Salem, Massachusetts — A North Andover teenager was arraigned yesterday in Salem Superior Court for 2 counts of assault & battery on a child with substantial injury in connection with injuries to his infant daughter.

Judge John Lu released Jaime Fitzgerald, 18, 47 East Water Street, North Andover on personal recognizance and ordered him to stay away and have no contact with his daughter, who is now 3 months old.  A plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.

On August 26, 2015, Lawrence Police responded to Boston Children’s Hospital for a possible child abuse incident.  A one-month old infant was suffering from numerous blunt force injuries.  The defendant and the baby’s mother had initially brought her to Lawrence General Hospital and were told that it would be a 4- to 5-hour wait so they drove to Boston Children’s Hospital.

As a result of a Grand Jury investigation, Mr. Fitzgerald was indicted on October 15, 2015 and turned himself in yesterday.

Mr. Fitzgerald is represented by Attorney Ben Duggan and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.  He must return to court on December 3, 2015 for a pre-trial conference.
