PITTSFIELDA Pittsfield man has been arrested and will be charged in connection with an early morning shooting in Washington.  19 year old KEVIN NIEVES was arrested shortly before 3 p.m.

NIEVES will be charged with one (1) count of ARMED ASSAULT WITH INTENT TO MURDER, one (1) count of ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM, one (1) count of KIDNAPPING and one (1) count of ASSAULT AND BATTERY.  He is expected to be arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court tomorrow morning.

At approximately 1 o’clock this morning police received a 911 call reporting a shooting near Ashley Reservoir in Washington.  A 19 year old man, who had been shot, was transported to Berkshire Medical Center, in Pittsfield, where he underwent surgery.  He is listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit of the hospital.    

The matter remains under investigation.   If you have information relevant to the shooting please call state police detectives at (413) 499-1112. 

The investigation is being conducted by state police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services and Ballistics Sections, forensic scientists assigned to the State Police Crime Laboratory, state troopers from the Lee and  Cheshire barracks, members of the Pittsfield, Dalton, Washington and Hinsdale Police Departments and the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Department.
