Media Contact for Probation's Pretrial Services Hosts Statewide Sneaker & Slides Drive to Benefit the Homeless
Coria Holland, Communications Director
The Pretrial Services Division of the Massachusetts Probation Service is hosting a Sneaker & Slides Drive at courthouses and Community Justice Support Centers across the state now through October 31, 2024.
Pretrial staff are inviting their Massachusetts Trial Court colleagues to participate by donating sneakers and slides (sandals) in all sizes that are new or in good condition. With winter soon approaching, the Pretrial team is also accepting boots as part of the drive.
The idea for the Sneaker & Slide Drive was conceived by the Pretrial Team. During a team meeting, Ms. Wilson mentioned a conversation she had with a client who was homeless and noticed that his shoes were worn out. The Pretrial Team, decided to organize a shoe drive.
"My Pretrial colleagues and I were looking at ways to assist those we serve, particularly those who are experiencing homelessness. This drive enables us to meet the needs of the homeless population by helping them keep their feet covered and warm during the fall and winter months as well as provide slides during the summer months so that their feet can stay cool and comfortable," said Ms. Donna Wilson, a Pretrial Services Operations Coordinator in the Western part of the state.
She added, "With new or gently worn shoe wear, our clients are able to take one step toward helping themselves."
Massachusetts Court system employees may drop off donated footwear at at their local court or Community Justice Support Center.
