The Victim Service Unit's Project PACK Drive is underway at courts across the state. Nine collection sites have been set up where Massachusetts Trial Court employees and members of the public can donate comfort and toiletry items which will be donated to local hospitals and provided to victims of crime.
Project PACK is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting survivors of sexual assault throughout Massachusetts with Post-Assault Comfort Kits (PACKS). The kits contain socks, undergarments, tissues, and toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, and deodorant. These PACKS are given to survivors of sexual survivors who report to a hospital or a Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) for treatment or evidence collection. The collection sites for items are at the Massachusetts Probation Service Training and Operations Center (MTOC), Bristol Superior – Fall River, Brockton District, Chicopee District, Plymouth District, Salem Superior, Springfield District, Suffolk Superior, and Worcester Superior courts. Courts and Community Justice Support Centers are welcome to set up collection boxes.
"This is an important effort that will impact hundreds of victims and survivors across the state and I am glad the Victim Services Unit is participating in this worthy cause," said Corinn Crowninshield, VSU Statewide Manager and this year's "Advocate of the Year," an honor bestowed on her by the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance (MOVA) for her work with victims and survivors.
Ms. Crowninshield and three of her staff members will be honored by MOVA at a May 5th Statehouse Ceremony.
Assistant Statewide Manager Courtney Bacon and Victim Services Coordinators Cara Greblick and Zoe Nardone are being recognized for their 10 years of service in the Victim Services profession.
In addition to organizing the drive, VSU staff is also participating in several activities in observance of Victim Rights Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April, including attending the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance (MOVA) Victim Rights Month Awards at the Massachusetts State House. VSU staff is also attending MOVA's webinars and participating in other events across the state.
