News  Roxbury Probation Officer Yasira Montas is recipient of the Margaret Oglesby Award

Yasira Montas, a Probation Officer in the Roxbury Division of the Boston Municipal Court, will be honored and presented with the Margaret Oglesby Award at a ceremony Thursday at the Massachusetts Probation Service Training and Operations Center (MTOC).

Mrs. Oglesby, who received a Bronze medal for her service in Afghanistan, was a former Hampshire Superior Chief Probation Officer, military hero, and leader who passed away in 2020.

Margaret Oglesby

Deployed for nine months during “Operation Enduring Freedom,” Mrs. Oglesby served as a US Army Captain and oversaw 154 soldiers as the Commander of the 747th Military Police Company with around the clock operations. She also trained the first Afghan military police company. Prior to her service in Afghanistan, Mrs. Oglesby also served the country as a member of the military by protecting the nation’s airports immediately following the 9/11 attacks.

Oglesby Award honoree Ms. Montas served in the US Marine Corps where she received numerous awards, including the following:

  • Iraq Campaign Medal (W/1 Bronze Service Star),
  • Sea Service Deployment Ribbon,
  • Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and,
  • National Defense Service Medal.

PO Montas first joined MPS in 2017 and is described as an employee who “goes above and beyond to provide and assist her probationers, victims and fellow co-workers.”
