Press Release  Smith enters not guilty plea on a charge of providing false information

Pittsfield — A Pittsfield man was arraigned this morning in Berkshire Superior Court.  34 year old SHANE SMITH appeared before Judge John Agostini. 

SMITH had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf on one (1) count of PROVIDING MISLEADING INFORMATION TO A POLICE OFFICER.  Judge Agostini ordered that he be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction on $3,000 bail.   

It is alleged that SMITH provided misleading information to investigators in the investigation into the death of 34 year old William Catalano.  

The investigation was conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department with assistance from State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, Forensic Scientists from the Crime Laboratory and the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Department.
