PITTSFIELDAn Adams man has been arrested in connection with the hit and run death of an elderly woman, in Adams, Friday morning.

61 year old DAVID I. SOOKEY JR. (157 East Road) was arrested by Adams Police this afternoon.  SOOKEY was charged with one (1) count of LEAVING THE SCENE OF A FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT and one (1) count of MISLEADING, IMPEDING AND OBSTRUCTING A POLICE INVESTIGATION.  He was released on personal recognizance and will be arraigned on those charges in Northern Berkshire District Court Wednesday morning.

Preliminary results of an autopsy conducted on 85 year old Theresa Marby, of Adams, indicate she died from blunt force trauma.  Dr. Robert Welton, an Associate Medical Examiner for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, conducted the autopsy on Marby Sunday in Holyoke.

Adams Police responded to a 911 call of a woman lying in the road on Dean Street at about 9:30 Friday morning.  Marby was transported to Berkshire Medical Center – North Adams campus, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The investigation is being conducted by members of the Adams Police Department, State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
