Skip this video Sourcing Reimagined: Category Management and Contract User Guides. In 2024, the Operational Services Division (OSD) integrated Category Management into its procurement strategy. By grouping Statewide Contracts into specific categories, OSD aims to provide a more intuitive and enhanced experience for procurement partners.
In a recent episode of the WOSD News: Procurement Insights podcast, Senior Category Managers Tanya Reeves and Ryan Johnson discussed this transition and the specific benefits Category Management offers public buyers throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
“Category Management helps procurement professionals better understand and optimize spend,” says Tanya. “It allows organizations to better organize and analyze data, identify the best opportunities to save money, improve quality, and increase efficiencies.”
While OSD’s primary role is connecting agencies with essential goods and services via Statewide Contracts, the agency also prioritizes simplifying processes for its state government partners. During the episode, Ryan emphasized the vital role of Statewide Contract User Guides within the Category Management strategy. OSD’s goal, he notes, is to “optimize Statewide Contracts and make the process of using and understanding them as easy as possible for Buyers.”
Tanya and Ryan also highlighted key features of the guides, shared navigation tips, and offered a preview of the upcoming web-based HTML Contract User Guide pages.
“The content will be entirely web-based and organized into different tiles,” Ryan explains. “This will make it much easier for users to find the content applicable to them, whether they represent a municipality, a college or university, or an executive agency.”
