Boston, MA — The State Ethics Commission mourns the passing of former Enforcement Division Chief Stephen P. Fauteux on September 14th. Mr. Fauteux, who joined the Commission’s staff in 1982 and served as Chief of the Enforcement Division for over 30 years, led the Commission’s investigative and civil prosecutorial efforts with high distinction.
“During his three decades as Enforcement Division Chief, Steve set a lasting example of dedicated public service, excellent government lawyering, integrity, fairness, and kindness,” said Executive Director David A. Wilson. “Steve was a true gentleman who was unfailingly respectful, kind, and considerate to everyone, from his Commission colleagues to the persons he investigated and their attorneys. The many current Commission staff members who served with Steve remember him fondly, highly value the experience of having known and worked with him, and daily strive to carry on the work of the Commission with the dedication, integrity, fairness, and kindness he exemplified.”
Mr. Fauteux was devoted to his family and deeply engaged in community service. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was an attorney with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office and the Federal Trade Commission before joining the State Ethics Commission.
