Over 90 judges from the Massachusetts judiciary are participating in Judicial Outreach Month in March, with 150 in-person activities planned in schools and community organizations across the Commonwealth.
As part of an effort to foster community understanding and trust in the judicial system, judges will engage with students and the public on a range of topics such as how the courts work and the rule of law.
Since 2017, state judges have participated in outreach activities in March, initially as part of the American Bar Association’s National Judicial Outreach Week, an initiative of the American Bar Association. In 2019, the Trial Court expanded the program to a full month to encourage broader participation.
This year, judges from the Boston Municipal Court, District Court, Juvenile Court, Land Court, Housing Court, Probate and Family Court, Superior Court, and the Appeals Court will participate in events at local elementary, middle and high schools, colleges, community and cultural organizations, senior centers, and public libraries statewide to educate the public on different aspects of the judicial branch, the American legal system, and the daily work of judges.
Events will take place in 13 of Massachusetts’ 14 counties, including: Barnstable, Berkshire, Bristol, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, Nantucket, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk, and Worcester.
