News  Step 2 Clinical Skills Examination Update

STEP 2 Clinical Skills examination not a requirement for Licensure

WakefieldOn January 26, 2021, the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), co-sponsors of the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®), announced the discontinuation of the Step 2 Clinical Skills examination (Step 2 CS).     

Effective immediately, physicians are not required to submit evidence of having passed Step 2 Clinical Skills to qualify  for licensure in Massachusetts. Limited License applicants must provide documentation of successful passage of USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 (Clinical Knowledge).  Full License applicants must provide documentation of successful completion of USMLE Steps 1, 2(CK), and 3.
