BOSTON, MA — At a ceremony yesterday in the Seven Justice Courtroom of the John Adams Courthouse, Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants presented the Clients’ Security Board’s William J. LeDoux Award to Attorney Saman Salim Wilcox for her pro bono work recouping financial losses in full on behalf of two clients whose awards in personal injury cases were misappropriated by their lawyers.
Created in 1997, the William J. LeDoux Award honors an attorney who, serving pro bono, has demonstrated outstanding legal work in representing a claimant before the Clients’ Security Board. It is not a yearly award. The Clients' Security Board is comprised of seven attorneys appointed by the Supreme Judicial Court who serve without compensation overseeing the disbursement of funds to clients who have been victimized by attorney misappropriation of funds. Attorneys who appear before the Clients’ Security Board are prohibited from charging a legal fee in accordance with Clients' Security Board Rule 9.
In June and October of 2017, Attorney Wilcox represented two claimants before the Clients’ Security Board. In choosing her for the award, the Clients' Security Board cites Attorney Wilcox's exceptional legal skills and a sound understanding of the Clients’ Security Board’s mission, which is to reimburse clients their money that was misappropriated by their lawyers. The Board further recognized Attorney Wilcox's thorough knowledge of her clients’ personal injury cases and comprehensive explanation as to her clients’ financial losses.
Saman Wilcox is an Associate Attorney at Hebert Law Offices, P.L.L.C., where she focuses her practice in family law matters and represents clients in divorce, custody, child support, alimony, modification, paternity and contempt cases. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and legal studies from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. In 2015, Attorney Wilcox earned her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Massachusetts School of Law.
Attorney Wilcox served as a Judicial Law Clerk in Salem District Court and Worcester District Court during her law school career. In law school, she served as a staff editor to the UMASS Law Review and as a representative of the Student Bar Association. In 2014 she was recognized on the Supreme Judicial Court Pro Bono Honor Roll. Upon graduation in 2015, she was awarded the Leader of Justice Award by the University of Massachusetts School of Law for completing more than 200 hours of pro bono work. After law school, Attorney Wilcox joined a firm where she focused her practice on medical malpractice, nursing home litigation and personal injury.
Attorney Wilcox is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the American Bar Association. She is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
