Salem, Massachusetts — Jason Fleury, 37, was arraigned today in Salem Superior Court for first degree murder in connection with the death of Jaimee Mendez, 25, who was last seen on November 6, 2014.  Her remains were discovered on January 28, 2015 on King’s Beach in Swampscott.  The defendant pleaded not guilty.

An Essex County Grand Jury indicted the defendant for murder on Friday, July 31st.  The defendant was arrested without incident in Hampton, Virginia on Monday, August 3rd.  He was transported back to Massachusetts, after waiving extradition by detectives from the Massachusetts State Police and Swampscott Police.

Essex Assistant District Attorneys John Brennan and Susan Dolhun are representing the Commonwealth.  Attorney Mike Phelan represents the defendant, who is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case is scheduled for a pre-trial conference and a bail hearing on September 19, 2015 in Salem Superior Court.
