The 27 new Probation Officers and first class to graduate from the newly-established Probation Officer Academy received their badges before an audience of friends and family.

Probation officer graduation ceremony agenda

The new Probation Officers represent 21 courts in eight of the 12 counties across the state.

Probation Commissioner Pamerson Ifill, Massachusetts Trial Court Chief Justice Heidi Brieger, and Trial Court Administrator Thomas Ambrosino addressed the new PO’s and wished them well in their new roles.

The two-week academy introduced the PO's to the tools and skills required of their role, including legal principles with a mock courtroom experience, evidence-based practices, dispute interventions, verbal de-escalation and conflict resolution, officer safety, and disengagement tactics.

The ceremony featured the Massachusetts Department of Corrections Bagpipe group,  the Massachusetts Trial Court Honor Guard, and soloist and Brockton District Court Probation Officer Linda Santos singing the "National Anthem."

This milestone event was also covered by the Worcester Telegram & Gazette and featured in Yahoo News. Read the full story here.
