The Kings met as students in Boston during the 1950’s. The team also celebrated and showed their support to their newest colleague, Kellie Amazi, whose wife, Jha D Amazi, is an architect and member of the design team at MASS Design that helped create the 22-foot-tall bronze memorial on the Boston Common. Ms. Amazi is an MPS Administrative Attorney.
The Embrace statue, conceived by Brooklyn-based artist Hank Willis Thomas, features arms of an entwined couple with the shape of a heart above. This 40,000-pound sculpture is located in the park near Tremont Street. The statue symbolizes the love and fortitude of Dr. King who was a PH.D student at Boston University and Mrs. King who was enrolled at the New England Conservatory of Music. The statue was inspired by a photo of the embrace by the couple in 1964 when they received news that Dr. King had won the Nobel Peace Prize. The Embrace statue was unveiled on Friday leading into the Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday weekend.
“We are so thankful that Kellie let us know about the unveiling of the Embrace, and to have her as part of our team,” said General Counsel Nina Pomponio.
“It was so wonderful to witness the unveiling of The Embrace, which is such a dynamic work of art, in the oldest public park in the United States. A work that represents Love. Love of self and love of others. It is the embodiment of how we should live our lives and my heart was full to be able to share this Love, in this moment, with this team. The perfect start to my career here,” Attorney Amazi said.
