Taunton, MA — The Taunton Recovery Court will celebrate the recovery journey of two graduates and present the annual John E. Munise III Outstanding Service Award on Wednesday, November 30th, at noon. The formal graduation will take place in Courtroom 5, located on the third floor of the Taunton Trial Court, 40 Broadway Street, in Taunton.

This event will feature remarks by community and court leaders, former Recovery Court graduates, and the annual presentation of the John E. Munise III Outstanding Service Award. A reception at the Taunton Community Justice Support Center will follow.

Speakers will include State Representative Carol Doherty, Taunton District Court First Justice Michael Brennan, Recovery Court Presiding Justice Edmund C. Mathers, and First Parish United Church Reverend Michelle Walsh. Newly-elected Bristol County Sheriff Paul Heroux is scheduled to attend.

John E. Munise III was a beloved Taunton Police Officer who was known to help those who were struggling in the community. Officer Munise, who passed away in 2018 following an illness, was Taunton Police Department’s senior affairs and services director, a member of the city’s Council on Aging, and helped run the police department’s Community Crisis Intervention Team as well as its elderly services component.

The Taunton Recovery Court’s first session was in November 2016. Since then 18 individuals, including tomorrow’s graduates will have completed the program.
