JOINT BASE CAPE COD, Mass. - This week, the Massachusetts National Guard is hosting a Top Gun Undercover Narcotics Officer Training Course. Top Gun is an intensive hands-on training course for state and municipal undercover narcotics officers and assistant district attorneys.

The Top Gun program is sponsored by the Massachusetts National Guard, Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association (MDAA). Faculty members are drawn from sponsoring agencies and organizations. Training support is provided by the Massachusetts National Guard's Counterdrug Program.

Top Gun program will provide the 80 participants with the latest information on drug-case investigative techniques and the law. The course will focus on the various stages of a drug probe, from the time the initial information is received, the resulting search warrants and, ultimately, taking the case to court.  Students develop an interdisciplinary perspective on the legal and practical aspects of complex narcotics investigations.

Michael W. Morrissey, MDAA President and Norfolk District Attorney, said, “This training was a strong example of local, state and federal agencies working together. It was a privilege to be part of this. Training like this makes officers, our citizens, and our communities safer.”

"Joint Base Cape Cod is an outstanding facility for dynamic training like this," said Major General Gary W. Keefe, Adjutant General of the Massachusetts National Guard. "We're glad to work in close partnership with civilian authorities, to help combat the threat posed to our communities by the current opioid epidemic."
