Mental wellness is one of the greatest challenges facing our military community today. With 18 veterans lost to suicide daily, the need for support is urgent. The USO, a provider of wellness programs for active-duty members and military families, plays a vital role in fostering communication, comfort, and connection.

One of its most impactful initiatives is the Reading Program, which allows service members to record themselves reading a book for their child. The book and video are then sent home, offering military children—many of whom struggle with anxiety and sleep issues—the reassurance of a familiar voice. With 40% of active-duty personnel raising children, and 6% as single parents, programs like this are essential in maintaining strong family bonds.

Recognizing the USO’s incredible work, Dacon Corporation partnered with USO New England to fund 200 long-term leave soldiers' participation in the Reading Program. This effort ensures that more families can stay connected despite the challenges of military life.
