PITTSFIELDA Pittsfield man pleaded guilty this morning in Berkshire Superior Court to several charges.  51 year old LIONEL VEGA a/k/a JOSE CRUZ and GILBERT VEGA appeared before Judge Daniel Ford. 

VEGA pleaded guilty to three (3) counts of ASSAULT AND BATTERY ON A FAMILY OR HOUSEHOLD MEMBER (subsequent offense), one (1) count of STRANGULATION OR SUFFOCATION, one (1) count of THREAT TO COMMIT A CRIME, TO WIT: MURDER, one (1) count of RESISTING ARREST and one (1) count of DISTURBING THE PEACE.  Judge Ford ordered that he serve 352 days (time served awaiting trial) at the Berkshire County House of Correction on one (1) count of ASSAULT AND BATTERY ON A FAMILY OR HOUSEHOLD MEMBER (subsequent offense) and one (1) count of RESISTING ARREST.  VEGA was given a concurrent 6 months house of correction sentence on the charge of THREAT TO COMMIT A CRIME, TO WIT: MURDER.  He was placed on probation for 18 months on two (2) counts of ASSAULT AND BATTERY ON A FAMILY OR HOUSEHOLD MEMBER (subsequent offense) and one (1) count of STRANGULATION OR SUFFOCATION.  During the probationary period VEGA must attend a certified batterers program, continue mental health counseling, continue drug treatment and abide by a restraining order.  The charge of RESISTING ARREST was dismissed.   

The incidents occurred in Pittsfield on August 5, 2017 and involved a 43 year old woman.      

The investigation was conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department.
