PITTSFIELDA Pittsfield man was found guilty this afternoon in Berkshire Superior Court on several charges.  The jury deliberated for about 6 hours over a two day period before returning its verdict against 27 year old GARRETT VIL a/k/a GARRETT JOHNSON and GARRETT JOHNSON-VIL. 

VIL was found guilty on one (1) count of ASSAULT AND BATTERY, SERIOUS BODILY HARM and one (1) count of THREAT TO COMMIT A CRIME, TO WIT: MURDER.   Judge John Agostini ordered that he serve a 4 to 5 year state prison sentence at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction on the charge of ASSAULT AND BATTERY, SERIOUS BODILY INJURY.  He was given a concurrent 6 month house of correction sentence on the other charge.         

VIL assaulted a 24 year old woman in Pittsfield on March 4, 2017. 

VIL was found not guilty on one (1) count of MAYHEM, one (1) count of ASSAULT AND BATTERY BY MEANS OF A DANGEROUS WEAPON CAUSING SERIOUS BODILY INJURY, one (1) count of ASSAULT AND BATTERY and two (2) counts of INTIMIDATION OF A WITNESS OR OTHER PERSON.

The investigation was conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department.
