Press Release  William Hayes Arrest

Cape and Islands — District Attorney Michael O’Keefe and Barnstable Police Chief Matthew Sonnabend announced today that William Hayes (d.o.b. 12-9-80) of Falmouth was arrested in Yazoo, Mississippi at a relative’s house at approximately 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2019.

Mr. Hayes was arrested by the United States Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force on a fugitive from justice warrant pursuant to a Massachusetts murder warrant.

This arrest was in connection with the shooting death of Darrell Russ (d.o.b. 9-6-86) of Hyannis.  Present in Mississippi were State Police Detectives from the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office and detectives from the Barnstable Police Department. 

Proceedings will begin to extradite Mr. Hayes to Massachusetts.  The case remains under investigation by the aforementioned agencies.
