News  Women’s History Month celebration features Gloria Steinem as speaker and Governor Healey as honoree

Ms. Steinem – a world-renowned journalist, author, lecturer, political activist, and feminist organizer – will participate virtually at this hybrid event to be held in the Saul Nechtem Gymnasium at Chelsea High School on Tuesday, March 21, at 1 pm.

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories,” is also the theme for the National Women’s History Alliance, sponsor of the nationwide observance. In addition to Ms. Steinem, eight trailblazing women will receive awards, including Governor Maura Healey, Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll, District Court Chief Justice Stacey Fortes, Middlesex Superior Court Assistant Clerk Amanda Rowan, Northeastern University Law Professor Deborah Ramirez, ROCA Executive Director Molly Baldwin, New Beginnings Reentry Services Executive Director Stacy Borden, and Crystal Haynes, Boston 25 News reporter and anchor. Ms. Haynes also will serve as the mistress of ceremonies. Lt. Governor Driscoll will accept the award on the governor's behalf.

The event will feature a performance by the Deborah Abel Dance Company of Boston, an honor guard, as well as a poem recited by Chelsea High School student Maria Adam.

This celebration was organized by the Massachusetts Trial Court Women's History Month Planning Committee, which includes  Massachusetts Probation Service Regional Supervisor Carmen Gomez, Juvenile Court Chief Justice Amy Nechtem, Chelsea District Court Chief Probation Officer Jessica Iovanna, Hingham District Court Chief Probation Officer Jennifer Brady, Regional Coordinator of Interpreter Services Martha Soto, Diversity Office (ODEIE) Project Coordinator Jessica Roman Alvarez, and Probation Communications Director/Spokesperson Coria Holland.
