Governor's Advisory Council on Latino Empowerment

On April 5, 2023, Governor Maura T. Healey signed an Executive Order establishing the Governor’s Council on Latino Empowerment and appointed more than 40 Latino leaders from across the state. This council will advise Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll on strategies to expand economic opportunities for and improve the overall wellbeing of Massachusetts’ Latino community.

About the Council

Today, there are about 850,000 Latinos in Massachusetts, comprising 12 percent of the state population. The Council includes a Chair, a Vice-Chair, members representative of the geographical regions of the Commonwealth and, serving in their ex officio capacity, the Executive Office Secretaries, or their designees, from each secretariat.

Celebrating Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month

On September 13, 2023, Governor Maura Healey and the Latino Empowerment Advisory Council hosted a celebration for Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month. Governor Healey, Council Chair Josiane Martinez, Vice Chair Gladys Vega, community members, and other leaders in advocacy and government came together at the State House to celebrate the diverse cultures and vibrant history of Massachusetts’ growing Latinx community with food music, and cultural performances.
