Carolyn McGowan

Senior Trial Counsel, Committee for Public Counsel Services

Carolyn McGowan is Senior Trial Counsel at the Committee for Public Counsel Services/Public Defender Division. She was previously Attorney in Charge of the CPCS Middlesex Superior Court Trial Unit.  She is a member of the CPCS Murder List. Prior to joining CPCS in 2004, Ms. McGowan was a litigation associate at Goodwin Procter. From 1997-1999, she clerked for the Honorable Morris E. Lasker, U.S.D.C. (S.D.N.Y.). Ms. McGowan was appointed to the Massachusetts Sentencing Commission in 2019. She serves as co-chair of the Massachusetts Conviction Integrity Working Group convened in 2018 by the MBA.  She was a member of the Supreme Judicial Court’s Voir Dire Committee, Superior Court Implementation Subcommittee, and Other Courts and Education and Training Working Groups. Ms. McGowan is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and Stanford University (M.A., B.A.).
