What is Reproductive Justice?
Reproductive Justice is an intersectional framework aimed at dismantling systems of oppression in pursuit of liberation. At its core reproductive justice is defined as “the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities,” by SisterSong the largest national multi-ethnic Reproductive Justice collective.
Who we serve?
The Attorney General’s Reproductive Justice Unit works on behalf of communities across the Commonwealth, with particular attention to marginalized communities, to protect access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare and to ensure Massachusetts continues to be a national leader in the pursuit of reproductive justice for all.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Protecting access to health care services such as abortion, contraception, and gender-affirming care in Massachusetts and nationwide, including through litigation and policy
- Addressing anti-abortion centers and other private actors who undermine access to abortion through misleading, deceptive, and otherwise illegal practices
- Addressing disparities in maternal healthcare
- Advancing policy solutions strengthening protections and resources across a broad spectrum of LGBTQ+ related issues
- Protecting and expanding access to critical reproductive technologies, including IVF
