Childhood trauma is widespread. More than two thirds of children report at least one traumatic event by age sixteen. As such, it is vital that child- and family-serving organizations adopt a trauma-informed and responsive (TIR) approach to ensure children are not traumatized or retraumatized as a result of interacting with those systems.

Given the prevalence of trauma among children and families, the Childhood Trauma Task Force (CTTF) developed a Framework for Trauma-Informed and Responsive (TIR) Organizations to provide child-serving professionals and organizations with a shared understanding of TIR care as well as guidance on how to implement a TIR approach at all levels of an organization.

While the Framework provides a general overview of the ways organizations can support children and families who have experienced trauma, the way the Framework is applied will vary depending on the sector and the cohorts of youth organizations serve. This page contains resources to further help organizations and professionals in their efforts to be TIR.
