The Commissioner’s Cup: Massachusetts’ Saltwater Fishing Derby
For decades Massachusetts anglers have competed to catch the largest fish in Massachusetts, dating back to the historic Governor’s Cup. In 2025, DMF invites you to help celebrate this long tradition as we create a new chapter: The Commissioners Cup. With new rules, easier entry into the weigh-in derby, and new prizes, DMF is excited to see what MA anglers are catching this year.
The Commissioners Cup is broken into two state-wide fishing derbies, the Weigh-In Derby and the Catch & Release Derby. Awards will be given to those anglers catching the heaviest (Weigh-In) or longest (Catch & Release) of each species for each of the two divisions: Adult and Junior (boys and girls aged 15 and younger). The overall winner of each division will be honored as the Top Anglers of the Year, joining the list of those that have won the Cup! Awards will also be presented to the Top Shop and Best Captain in the Business.
Massachusetts fishing is world-class, offering a vast number of species, ample trophy opportunities, great tackle stores, and down-right fishy Captains. Come celebrate all our waters have to offer this year!
