Scheduling a motion for hearing in the Land Court

Find out how to schedule a hearing or case event in the Land Court.

I. Dispositive motions

Dispositive motions under Mass. R. Civ. P. 12 (b) (1), 12 (b) (6), 12 (c) and 56 will be scheduled by the court in all cases. See Land Court Rule 4.

II. Non-dispositive motions

For judges who have set pre-scheduled motion dates, non-dispositive motions may be marked for hearing before the assigned judge. See Land Court Rule 5. Parties and lawyers are strongly encouraged to confirm dates and times with other parties before marking non-dispositive motions for hearings.

Current pre-scheduled motion dates:  None.

For judges who have not set pre-scheduled motion dates, and if requesting a hearing on the motion, the hearing must be scheduled with the court directly through the sessions clerk for the judge assigned to the case. You can find sessions clerk contact information at the Land Court contacts page.

III. Tax lien motions

All hearings of the tax lien session are held on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m at the Land Court, 3 Pemberton Square, Boston, or by telephone or videoconference where noted on the court’s daily list. The daily list and courtroom assignments are posted on the Land Court’s website and at the Land Court Recorder’s Office (5th floor) on the day of the hearing.

All motions in tax lien cases must be scheduled with the court directly through the sessions clerk for the Recorder. You can find sessions clerk contact information at the Land Court contacts page.
