School-Based Health Centers - why it’s important

Research suggests that dropout rates and health disparities are linked. High school graduates are more likely to enjoy a safer, healthier, more economically stable lifestyle and ultimately require fewer public resources.

Over the course of the 2021-2022 school year, there were 45,725 visits to SBHCs. We offer services to all students, including hard-to-reach kids (at-risk youth, refugee and immigrant children and those with special health care needs) right where they spend the most time- in school. We focus on building them up to help them successfully complete high school and develop the skills they need to succeed in life. By offering a safe place to receive needed services from a trusted adult, 97% of visits results in students returning to class and maximizing time in learning.
