What: Beginning on Monday, August 10, 2026, and continuing through spring 2028, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will begin construction on the new Wellington Underpass under Route 28 along the Mystic River in the City of Medford. The new path will consist of a 14-ft wide wooden boardwalk under Route 28 with shared-use paths connecting to Macdonald Park, the Wellington T Station and the Mystic River Greenway heading towards the Malden River. Pedestrian and bicycle detour signage will be in place while construction is underway to maintain access along Route 28 and over the pedestrian bridge to Macdonald Park.
