In accordance with the provisions of G.L. c. 30A § 20, the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters convened a meeting of its Plumbing Code Subcommittee meeting:

Board Counsel discussed a possible concurrency period for any new code adoption. Will discuss further at the next subcommittee meeting.

- 248 CMR 10.02, Basic Principles
Members and staff reviewed the accessibility requirements for common laundry facilities, including whether access should be provided directly through the main building. The group also discussed the potential use of an outbuilding. Staff presented the following option for possible code language.
The washing machine connection shall be located within the same building as the dwelling units to ensure that all occupants have reasonable access to a washing machine. Interior access to the laundry area is not required. The laundry room may be reached by an exterior entrance, provided the space is part of the same building structure.

248 CMR 10.03, Definitions
Staff presented the proposed addition to the definition of Grease Interceptor (Hydro-Mechanical). Grease Interceptor (Hydro-Mechanical): A smaller interceptor, (normally installed inside a building) which is compact in size because grease separation occurs continuously due to several simultaneous actions; a hydraulic flow action, air entrainment and the difference in specific gravity between water and FOG (fats, oils and grease).

248 CMR 10.06, Materials
Staff presented adding a labeling requirement for 10.06 (2)(k) a Single Stack Sanitary Drainage System. Staff were asked to present possible label names at the next meeting.
Staff also presented additional code requirements regarding a dedicated stack in addition to the dedicated system
This matter is tabled and will be discussed at the next meeting.

248 CMR 10.10 (14), Plumbing Fixtures
Staff presented the following proposed additions or changes.
10.10 (4) (f) Change the title from Free Standing Tubs and Whirlpool Baths to use only the term Tubs.
10.10 (4) (f) Add to #1 hot water supply temperature shall be a minimum of 110 degrees and not greater than 120 degrees.
10.10(6)(e) Exception from installing a priming device. Members asked staff to present at the next meeting proposed language regarding the use of tight tanks / unsewered areas with the use of trap primers.
10.10 (8)(a)d Add a reference to 10.02 Basic principle 6.
10.10 (13)(c) Emergency Wash Systems (c) Staff and members discussed adding possible language allowing one emergency shower to be sized independently and all other installations to be sized with two discharging simultaneously. Staff presented adding “for multiple showers” to the code section requiring multiple showers to be designed for two emergency showers operating simultaneously.
10.10 (13)(e) Emergency Wash Systems (e) Staff and members discussed adding language defining the measurement. Staff presented the following possible language.
Piping for systems shall be installed in a manner that prevents the stagnation of water. Piping from the main to each individual emergency equipment fixture connection shall not exceed a developed length of fifteen feet. Where a mixing valve is provided, the piping serving that valve includes a recirculation line. The developed length shall be measured from the outlet of the mixing valve to the emergency equipment fixture connection.

10.12 (1) (f) Remove Drawing 4
10.12 (1) (f) 1 Safe Waste Pans, add language to only allow metal safe waste pans for water heaters.
10.12 (5) Installation of Indirect Waste Piping, Staff discussed adding language to allow clear water waste to discharge into the inlet of a trap. Members asked staff to present at the next meeting new language allowing clear water waste to discharge to the inlet side of a properly sized and vented trap
