Chelmsford- Lowell Bridge Bundle Replacement

Overview

Purpose:

The purpose of this meeting is to update the public about upcoming work related to the Chelmsford-Lowell Bridge Replacement Project. This project will replace two bridges in the Town of Chelmsford, including Westford Street over I-495 in Chelmsford and Route 3A (Gorham Street) over I-495 on the Chelmsford-Lowell line.

How will this affect you?

The new bridges will improve the overall clearance and geometry of the bridge crossings. Roadway reconstruction work will improve vehicle safety and provide improvements for pedestrian and bicycle travel. Work will occur in two phases, with simultaneous construction on both bridges anticipated to take place from April 2025 to August 2028. During the first phase of work, a local detour route will be in place for vehicular traffic to accommodate the demolition and reconstruction of the bridge roadway structure. During the second phase of work, this area will reopen allowing vehicular traffic.
