Question 1# If installing a new combination meter/main breaker/load center, which in turn feeds multiple new sub panels, and a surge-protective device is installed at the service equipment as described in article 230.67, are additional surge-protective devices also required at each sub panel as described in article 215.18?
Question #2 Is a surge-protective device required to be installed in a Solar Inverter Combiner Panel? Solar Inverter manufacturers do not mandate a requirement for the installation of SPDs. These combiner panels are often connected to the premise wiring with a 4-wire (L1,L2,N,G) circuit, but do not supply loads as described in 215.18(A)
Question #3 Is a surge-protective device required in an Energy Storage System Battery Combiner Panel? ESS manufacturers do not mandate a requirement for the installation of SPDs. These Combiner panels are often connected directly to a Gateway/Transfer Switch, but are not used to directly supply loads as described in 215.18(A)
