Overview
We ideally want anything we write for the public to be at grade level 8 or lower, so it's accessible to the broadest possible audience.
Lowering the grade level of the documents (web content, forms, emails, social media posts, reports, etc.) we produce in government isn't the same as writing in plain language, but it's a step in the right direction. Fortunately, there are more tools than ever to help you bring down the reading level of the things you write and publish.
In this session, we'll talk about how grade level is calculated, and we'll share strategies to help you get your writing to a more accessible reading level.
Content Lab is a community of practice focused on content strategy. It's open to employees at state agencies and organizations.
