Public Hearing Notice  Holden – Bridge Replacement, H-18-004, Salisbury Street over PW Railroad

Overview

A Virtual Design Public Hearing will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed Bridge Replacement, H-18-004, Salisbury Street over PW Railroad project in Holden, MA.

Purpose:

The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Bridge Replacement project. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), along with the Town of Holden, proposes the replacement of the vehicular Salisbury Street Bridge (H-18-004) over the Providence and Worcester Railroad. Based on the latest inspection report from March of 2020, there has been severe deficiencies with the deck, railing and girders identified, which warrant repair as soon as possible. The project will also include roadway pavement overlay, new pavement markings, as well as bicycle and ADA compliant pedestrian curb ramps and sidewalks. A 10-foot shared use path tapers to a 5.5-foot-wide sidewalk at the bridge on the west side in accordance with all applicable design guides. A detour is being proposed during the summer months when school is out to replace the bridge.

A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.

Project inquiries, written statements and other exhibits regarding the proposed undertaking may be submitted to Carrie E. Lavallee, P.E., Chief Engineer, via e-mail to MassDOTProjectManagement@dot.state.ma.us or via US Mail to Suite 7550, 10 Park Plaza, Boston, MA 02116, Attention: Project Management, Project File No. 612190.
