Public Hearing Notice  Notice of public hearing and comment period to amend 540 CMR 25.00

Notice is hereby given pursuant to M.G.L. c. 30A, § 2, that the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Registry of Motor Vehicles Division ("RMV") will hold a virtual public hearing on Monday, June 21, 2021, beginning at 1:30 p.m. relative to the adoption of amendments to regulations:

540 CMR 25.00 — Certification, Installation, Use and Maintenance of Ignition Interlock Devices

The purpose of 540 CMR 25.00 is to establish guidelines and procedures for the certification, installation, use and maintenance of Ignition Interlock Devices. The proposed amendments will update the RMV’s authority to issue interlock violations as permitted by the enabling statute, and to implement the new first-offender and indigency provisions of the fiscal year 2021 budget. See St. 2020, c. 227, §§ 35-36, 58. There is no fiscal impact on cities or towns. The proposed amendments do not impose new costs on small businesses.
