Practical Guidance When Working with Self-Represented Litigants in the Land Court
Overview
Please join REBA’s New Lawyers Section for a webinar, which is open to all REBA members, from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Our guest speakers will be Hon. Diane R. Rubin and Hon. Michael D. Vhay, associate justices of the Massachusetts Land Court, Kate Moran Carter of Dain, Torpy, Le Ray, Wiest & Garner, PC, and Jonathan Stark-Sachs of Johnson & Borenstein, LLC.
This program will provide practical guidance for lawyers working with self-represented litigants in the Massachusetts Land Court. Because many parties in the Land Court proceed without counsel, lawyers for the adverse party frequently encounter unique procedural and practical considerations involving pro se parties.
Judges Rubin and Vhay, together with Land Court practitioners Kate Moran Carter and Jonathan Stark-Sachs, will discuss the Court’s expectations and offer practical advice on effectively and professionally handling cases with self-represented litigants. This program is particularly geared toward newer lawyers seeking to better understand the challenges arising when opposing unrepresented parties.
