About

The Massachusetts State Police has partnered with Boston’s Police Activities League (PAL) to present the Unity Basketball League. This is a 10-week summer basketball league that will service 150 youth from all communities in Boston. Twice a week, we will offer fun competition and meaningful interaction with Massachusetts State Police, Boston Police, and other law enforcement agencies, who will co-coach each team.

The Unity Basketball League (UBL) is a brand-new initiative, spearheaded by Massachusetts State Police, in conjunction with Boston Police Activities League (PAL), and the Boston Police that aims to bring youth together to learn and play basketball with law enforcement, in a safe and friendly environment.

There is a great need to rebuild the trust between the community, our youth, and law enforcement, and this program allows us to begin to mend those relationships and provide a positive activity and interaction within the local community. The purpose of this initiative is to build and strengthen relationships with local police departments and the communities we serve, by connecting more kids and police officers in a safe and open environment. We will involve youth from a variety of ethnicities, cultures and backgrounds.

UBL will serve middle school youth in grades 6, 7 and 8 from the City of Boston.  It is open to all communities, and we anticipate the majority of participants will come from Dorchester, Mattapan, Roxbury, Chinatown and Mission Hill. The age range is 11-14 years old, and we will create a league that encompasses all backgrounds and ethnicities, including Black, Hispanic, Chinese and Filipino.
