Overview

The interior of the new Type 10 Green Line car

On October 29th and 30th, the MBTA will be unveiling to the public a full-scale mockup of its Type 10 Green Line train, the next-generation Green Line vehicle that will eventually replace the existing fleet of Green Line cars. The MBTA’s System-Wide Accessibility and Vehicle Engineering teams have been working hard to ensure the Type 10s will be the most accessible car yet, but your feedback is critical.

  • Date: Tuesday, October 29th, and Wednesday, October 30th
  • Time: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
    • Note: Representatives from System-Wide Accessibility will be on hand Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Location: City Hall Plaza
  • Accessibility: The mockup will be fully accessible to attendees with disabilities. If you would like to request an accommodation to participate, please contact accessibility@mbta.com or call 617-222-1898.

All are encouraged to come visit the mockup, learn about the many new and enhanced accessibility features that will be available on the Type 10 train, and provide feedback on the vehicle design and features. MBTA staff will be on hand to hear your feedback and, answer questions.

Type 10 train accessibility features include but aren’t limited to:

  • 100% of the train is low-floor for easier boarding and alighting for all riders
    • Once the existing fleet is fully retired, this will enable us to raise platforms along with the Green Line to provide level boarding (similar to Red, Orange, and Blue lines)
  • Four seating areas for wheeled mobility devices
  • Larger visual messaging signs for increased visibility of visual stop announcements
  • Digital passenger information screens to provide riders with real-time service information, including information on service disruptions.
  • All audible announcements and tones will be provided in an identical visual format.
  • Additional bridgeplate request buttons and passenger intercoms to make it easier for riders to request assistance
  • Inductive hearing loop available throughout the entire train
