Public Hearing Notice Your Voice Matters: Assisted Living in Massachusetts
Overview
The purpose of the hearing is for the ALR Commission to receive feedback from members of the public, including; residents of Assisted Living Residences, family members and caregivers of residents, advocates, stakeholders, experts, and all other interested parties.
The Commission is seeking input in each of the six key topic areas:
- Resident rights and protections (e.g., how residents and families can raise concerns, transparency of policies, financial protections)
- Keeping residents safe in emergencies (e.g., fire safety, disaster planning, emergency response)
- Staffing and workforce (e.g., type of staff, staff levels, training)
- Types and levels of care (e.g., making sure care matches residents’ needs)
- Affordability and access (e.g., costs for residents and families)
- Transparency of information for families and residents (e.g., how people can better compare options and make informed choices)
The hearing is open to the public; all are welcome to attend. The link to register can be found HERE.
To ensure everyone has an opportunity to speak, oral testimony will be limited to approximately two minutes per person.
In addition to the public hearing, the Commission will be collecting written testimony. Any written testimony can be submitted to Bill Travascio (william.travascio@mass.gov) and Patrick Sullivan (Francis.P.Sullivan2@mass.gov) by end of day on Friday, November 14th, 2025.
