Apply for a permit to grow red currants or gooseberries

To plant red currants or gooseberries (Ribes spp.) in Massachusetts, you must first have the nursery/shipper apply for and receive a permit from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources.

Once you have verified that the town/city the plants are to be grown in is not on the prohibited list, use the contact info below to start the permit process.

Please note, as of this time, black currants or any hybrids of black currants, including jostaberries, are not permitted to be grown in Massachusetts.
