What you need for Apply for a pharmacist license

Eligibility requirements

National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP)

  • You must register or have an account with the NABP to schedule, take, or transfer your necessary exams.

Exams

You must complete the following exams:

  • NAPLEX (North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination)
  • MPJE (Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination)

Approved applicants must contact Pearson VUE to:

  • Schedule the exam date.
  • Choose an exam location.

    Fees for Apply for a pharmacist license

    You will need to pay a fee for your exam. Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

    You can pay with either a:

    • Credit card
    • Money order
      • If you pay by money order, make it payable to “PCS” for the total amount of the examination(s) you are applying to take.

    First-time applicants for both NAPLEX and MPJE $421 each
    Reciprocity applicants (MPJE only) $525 each
    Score Transfer applicants $375 each
    Reexamination applicants for both NAPLEX and MPJE $121 each
    Reexamination applicants for NAPLEX only $121 each
    Reexamination applicants for MPJE $75 each
    Reinstatement/Board Consent applicants $75 each
    Handling charge for returned checks $23 each

    How to apply Apply for a pharmacist license

    Once you have read the eligibility requirements, you can apply for your license online.

    1. Go to the PCS web portal.
    2. Click Applications.
    3. Click on how you wish to apply: 
      • By Exam
      • By Reciprocity
      • By Score Transfer
      • By Reinstatement
    4. Follow the prompts.
      • If you have not taken your exam(s) yet, you will need to.
      • If you have not paid your fee(s) yet, you will need to.

    How many intern hours are required for licensure in the state of Massachusetts?

    A minimum of 1500 hours.

    Do my application and fees expire?

    Yes, the application is void if requirements are not met within one year from date of receipt by PCS. The fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
