What you need   for Apply for a plumbing business license

To complete a business application through the ePLACE portal, submit the following:

  1. Organizing Documents
    • Provide a signed, stamped copy of your business's organizing documents as filed with the Massachusetts Secretary of State. Specific requirements depend on your business structure:
      • Corporation/Professional Corporation (PC): Submit Articles of Organization specifying plumbing and/or gas fitting as the purpose and listing the master plumber of record as an officer.
      • LLC: Submit a Certificate of Organization specifying plumbing as the primary purpose and listing the master plumber of record as a manager.
      • LP/LLP: Submit a Partnership Certificate listing all partners as licensed master plumbers.
      • General Partnership: Submit a notarized written agreement signed by all partners, who must also be licensed master plumbers.
  2. Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Form
    • Each master plumber listed as an officer, manager, or partner must complete and pass a CORI check. Ensure the second page of the form is notarized. Download the CORI form.
  3. For Out-of-State Businesses
    • Provide a signed, stamped copy of the Foreign Corporation Certificate (for corporations), Foreign LLC Certificate (for LLCs), or equivalent documentation required by the Massachusetts Secretary of State.
