What you need

You will need to log in with a MyMassGov account to apply for a professional driving school instructor license online. 

To be certified as a professional driving school instructor, you:

  • Must complete an online application.
  • Will be subject to a criminal record check.
  • Will be subject to a driving record check.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have at least 24 months operating experience (in the same license classification).
    • Experienced gained under a learner's permit does not qualify toward the 24 months.
  • Pass an exam administered by the RMV comprised of 100-questions selected from the most current edition of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Driver's Manual with a passing grade of at least 90%.
  • If you were issued a standard Class D license after July 1, 2023, you will need to provide proof of lawful presence
