The Oil Burner Technician Certificate allows the holder to service, install and repair oil burners that burn fuel oil, and any associated appurtenances. Qualified applicants must pass a written exam to demonstrate knowledge of oil burners and associated equipment, including knowledge of 527 CMR 1.00, knowledge of related safety devices, automatic, pneumatic and electronic controls, and a working knowledge of pipefitting and heating systems.
The Oil Burner Apprentice Certificate allows the holder to service, install and repair oil burners and associated appurtenances under the supervision of a properly licensed Oil Burner Technician. It is for anyone wishing to enter the oil burner trade.

There is no exam for the Oil Burner Apprentice License.
In order to become a licensed Oil BurnerTechnician in Massachusetts you must pass the exam.
Once the completed application has been received you will be registered for the next exam date. If the application is received after the deadline for the next exam, you will be registered for the following exam.
Incomplete applications will be returned to you.
These licenses are good for two years.
60 days before the expiration of your license you will receive the application to renew by mail.(If you do not receive it, please contact our office as soon as possible to make sure we have your correct address.) Please submit the completed application and fee 30 days before your license expires.
There is no exam for renewal.
