In Massachusetts, non-residential boilers and pressure vessels must be registered and inspected. The Boiler and Pressure Vessel (BPV) program provides for these functions as required by M.G.L Chapter 146. This jurisdiction includes private and public facilities such as:
• power plants
• nursing homes
The program also administers professional trade licenses and all prerequisite examinations for:
• firemen and engineers (power plant operators)
• boiler and pressure vessel inspectors
• oil burner technicians
BPV district engineering inspectors also investigate boiler or pressure vessel incidents or accidents. They determine the cause, and prosecute violators of the law within their jurisdiction.
