The Details
What you need to know
Before applying, you will need to know the following:
- The application must be completed by the head of the fire department or their delegate.
- The application must be completed in one session and should take 5-8 minutes per recruit.
- You are encouraged to visit the Recruit Class Calendars page to see availability in upcoming recruit classes.
- Review the Career Recruit Application Instructions linked here.
- The student must create/edit their personal profile in the DFS Learning Management System (LMS).
What you need to have
Before applying, you will need to have the following:
- Recruit’s legal name and email address.
- Chief’s preferred phone number and email.
- Preferred campus location and start date.
- Pages 1 & 8 of the Human Resources Division’s (HRD) Initial-Hire Medical Standards Medical Examination Form (Medical Form).
- Documentation (email) of passing results of the HRD’s Initial Hire Civil Service Commission's Physical Ability Test (PAT) for Firefighter.

Next steps
After verification of a completed application, the head of the department will be notified of the recruit class assignment.
The student will be emailed instructions to apply to a Recruit Fitness Orientation (RFO) class in the DFS LMS. The student will receive an email confirmation of their enrollment.
After successful Completion of the RFO, the student will be provided instructions for applying to the waitlist for the Career Recruit Program. The student and the department will receive notification when their class assignment has been confirmed.
